The Importance of Selling Online |
Sales and Conversion

Tuesday, 22 July 2008 |

Not so long ago, when the computer was first mass-produced for selling to the public, a lot of industry experts predicted that nobody will want a box that does nothing besides handling data and hogging up the entire garage. What a joke. They were obviously wrong – nearly every household has at least one computer in the United States which has maybe the highest update of desktops, and most even have two or three desktops!
The same thing was said about the TV. Some of the leading companies CEOs at that time decided that no one will sit and watch a box all day. What a joke that is today, most of the population watch TV and some literally sit in front of the box all day.
However, that said, there were many products in the history of sales and marketing with brilliant development, genius engineering that no one heard of and died and fast and painful death to their creators, which didn’t make a cent.

The Importance of Overdelivering in Internet Marketing |
Sales and Conversion
Monday, 21 July 2008 |
In the world of internet marketing there are many things that are important, though some of them are more important than others if you wish to be successful as fast as humanly possible.
As we mentioned before in one of our articles internet marketing carries one little difference between on offline shop and an internet shop. On the internet you can’t interact with your customer the same way you can in a physical shop. On the internet you have an internet shopping cart but no physical store. To overcome this there are many systems one of them is over-delivering.
Let us explain why and how this works. As an online merchant, your customers cannot see your face, or your staff, nor can they touch and fell the products. They cannot hear your voice when you are recommending your products, and they cannot see the emotions on your face when you are telling your customers what benefits they can derive out of your products. In short, how can they trust you?

Internet Marking and the Preselling Concept to Build Cashflow |
Sales and Conversion
Sunday, 20 July 2008 |
The concept of pre-selling is really an art of building anticipation.
Pre-selling really is the work one does before releasing or launching a product. If you go and look on Amazon some books are only available on pre-order. They are being marketed already but no product has been created.
It is kind of “sell it and build it later” concept. Some marketers take this concept to extreme extents for testing markets and even creating cash flow for product development. This is great, but you really must know what you are doing.
This is not a newbie or beginner strategy at all. Many things one must learn before employing such a strategy.
In internet marketing this system requires work for the internet marketer to convince the customer base or to-be-customers that a product has great benefit and only a fool will pass your offer without purchasing -- all this without actually "selling" the mentioned product. That is no easy task and definitely not for someone with no internet marketing experience.

Outsourcing for Your Online Business |
Outsourcing and Offshoring
Saturday, 19 July 2008 |
An online business consists of many essential components: website design, product creation, payment processing, salesletter, affiliate programs, opt-in services and so on. How about coupling that with sales and advert tracking? All of which at the beginning internet marketers try to do themselves and outsource as little as possible to preserve the cash flow. Which makes sense at the beginning, or at least that is what they think.
When a lot of Internet marketers start out with their small home based businesses, they have totally no idea that their businesses could grow into "something huge". They do not understand that a one-man eBay store can grow into full-fledged online shops run by a team of dedicated salespersons, logistics and customer support personnel. All the internet marketer wanted when he got started is a simply home based business, that has to be online to give him the life style and not have to go to work everyday. That is how most start anyway. At the end, they don’t realize that if they get hugely successful or even remotely successful one can no longer manage every little aspect of the online business. Just because it is online, it doesn’t mean “no staffing requirements”. The internet marketer has to be prepared that an internet business will need staffing and he will need help sooner or later. Prepared means both mentally and financially with cash flow that enable growth. This is when outsourcing becomes a necessity and becomes very handy.
However, outsourcing is not that simple and care must be taken to choose the right people to outsource the tasks and equal detail must be paid attention to provide the best working environment for greatest productivity. Tasks that are often outsourced are usually mundane and repetitive jobs like answering emails, bookkeeping, writing articles, sometimes even link building and keeping track of stocks and sales figures and so on. It is important that you build some processes in these tasks and some very clear instructions which at the end ensures that while you hand some of tasks and responsibilities to other people, they have the least chances of screwing up because the jobs they are handed are easy and straightforward clearly explained and documented. All great companies have processes in place and exceptional companies have exceptional processes in place.
On the other hand you must make sure you never ever never let others people make decisions that will greatly affect your online business if you do not want to risk losing your business overnight. Of course this excludes partners that started the online business with you, if you did not start it alone. Some people start their online business with partners and that is great because you have someone to help at the beginning, which most don’t really have.
While you may have to hire some people on salary at some point in time, it is to be noted that some jobs can be outsourced to freelancers. This is very cash flow effective as you don’t need to pay monthly salaries. When you grow very big even those jobs may become far more cost effective to have in-house, however at the beginning that may not be the case.
For examples, you can get ghostwriters to write good content for your online business and you can get freelance designers to help you with your website. You do not need to hire these people on a regular salary at the beginning because once their job is done, they do not have much follow up work to do for your online business. Once your business become very big updating and managing a website may be a daily task and then you hire web designer in-house and available at all times to do what is necessary.
A good resource for freelancers would be www.elance.com and www.rentacoder.com , where freelancers and buyers have transactions on a per job basis.
When your business reaches a certain extent, you will start to find it hard to keep track of everything and this means time to outsource. Think of it this way: you may lose a little money to hire other people to do some of your daily tasks, but you earn more money from the increased productivity.
In summary you will have to track your cash flow and you skills and start outsourcing to reach more productivity in your online business. Everything is a ROI (return on investment) and you should look at all outsource tasks that way. Outsource when necessary for your internet business to the extent your cash flow affords to move on the next level. When you are very successful you start thinking whom to hire in-house on a salary to further optimize your internet business at some point you may find you are no longer a home based business but full fledged successful business that derives income from sales on the internet.

How to Start an Internet Business with No Money Down |
Getting Started
Friday, 18 July 2008 |
I often meet new internet marketers on the net that aspire to earn the big bucks like some of the well-known personas out there.
All want to get started with “no money down”. Funny enough this reminds me of the real estate industry, more accurately property investing. And even funnier is that in actual fact it is easier to get started with an Internet Business than investing in real estate. As you know Web Investor Network is a sister site to Property Investor Network , so I should know a things of two about these subjects.
However, most of these new internet marketers have only the slightest ideas on where to get started, and a lot of them are not willing or able to invest a startup capital in their online business. However, it is almost impossible to start an Internet business without spending either massive amounts of time or alternately some money. One would need basic infrastructure such as web hosting, domain names and so on. Hence, here is a rough guide on how to build an Internet business starting with the famous “no money down”.
Before you read, please understand that a little bit of money is necessary, just like in real estate investing some capital is required, though far less than in real estate, which of course if the good news.

Ethical Marketing for Online Businesses |
Sales and Conversion
Wednesday, 16 July 2008 |
If you are selling products online this is a very important article to read.
With huge opportunities on the internet and many good products there are the inevitable bad ones as well.
The problem with online business, as we mentioned before, is that it can be very impersonal. This means that if someone gives a bad reputation to a product in a niche market it can rub off on other websites that are perfectly fine trustworthy and good.
This is where ethical marketing comes into play. To ensure that you get the customers and no bad media rubs off on your website and online business.

Creating A Product That Sells Easily Online |
Getting Started
Tuesday, 15 July 2008 |
In the online business world it is important to create a product that sells. Entrepreneurs often make the mistake of creating or trying to sell a product that people are not looking for.
This is actually one of the biggest mistakes in the online business world.
Many marketers have created or acquired products that they thought would sell well and, in their enthusiasm, set up everything from sales letters to websites to getting traffic. However, a lot of these marketers have forgotten the single most important factor that will affect their product sales – the "sellability" of the product.

Building a Profitable Customer Base |
Sales and Conversion
Monday, 14 July 2008 |
No business can really stay afloat and be profitable without a customer base. However, as much as that sounds like solid common sense, in online business this is does work exactly in the same way that it works offline.
When you have a shop on the road, someone can come into the shop and buy a drink or buy a dress and they don’t need to know you. They go into your shop, check your merchandize and if they like something and the sales people are nice to them, they buy and then they leave. If they had a good experience with your shop and people they may even come back on day and buy more things from the shop. In the online business world this doesn’t exactly work in the same way, at least not for now, maybe some day, who knows.
The reality is that buying online products and services has one small disadvantage than shops. They can’t see you, can’t talk to your sales staff or people in the store and customers can’t touch and feel the products. This does put the online business owner at a small disadvantage in this sense.

Benefits of Online Joint Ventures |
Business Models
Sunday, 13 July 2008 |
Joint ventures are an essential part of every online business. It is to be noted that Joint Ventures are not the only way to make money, but without them less money will be made.
Therefore joint ventures are about optimizing the potential of every online business and website.
Let's imagine a situation where we have two Internet marketers who know each other. One has a great product that will sell very well but he has no mailing list, no affiliates, nothing. The other is a great marketer with tens of thousands of subscribers in his mailing list, but the problem is he has nothing to sell to them. The very obvious solution here is to give the product to the great marketer with lots of contacts, and split the profits between them. This, my friend, is the very essence of Joint Ventures.

Benefits of Being an Affiliate Marketer in South Africa |
Affiliate Marketing
Saturday, 12 July 2008 |
Affiliate marketing has become one of the most effective ways to advertise online. It is also one of the easiest ways for anyone with a website to make a profit online. And we have gone of the subject of “lazy way to make money” and the affiliate “life style” in previous articles and why these statements have been attached to affiliate marketing.
Affiliate Marketing is an agreement between a merchant and a website owner. The website owner, or the affiliate, allows the use of their site for the promotion of the merchant's products by linking to the merchant's website. In exchange, the merchant pays a commission to the affiliate on all sales generated by the affiliate. Every time someone clicks on the link on the affiliate website and proceeds to make a purchase, the affiliate gets a commission. The merchant will pay the affiliate only when a customer clicks on the product link and makes a purchase.

7 Ways to Drive Laser-Targeted Traffic |
SEO and Traffic
Friday, 11 July 2008 |
Everyone that has been online for a while trying to make money with an online business knows by now that traffic is very important for the survival of any online business and website. However, this subject is extensively talked about traffic is really not what is important, but highly targeted traffic.
Let me give an example. You could have a page on the website that is talked about in every media, but that page it not specific to the items you sell on the website maybe not even closely aligned to your industry. What will happen is that you will have thousands or even hundred of thousands of people visiting your website but no sales conversion. This is why it is important to focus on targeted traffic.
Traffic that provides you visitors that are not interested in your products or services or even industry is just a waste of bandwidth which you pay for to your website hosting service provider.
The same reason lies behind the myth that it is good to be on the first page of Digg. That is another story all together, which will go into in future articles under the social media section.

How to start an affiliate program |
Affiliate Marketing
Tuesday, 08 July 2008 |
An Affiliate or Partner program is a great way to build your own marketing and sales channels and to develop a network of advertising partners. Every online business must have an affiliate program as one of the methods it uses to market itself.
As an online business owner you have two ways in which you can start an affiliate network. You can join an affiliate network (such as Commission Junction or Linkshare ) or run your own affiliate program.
While joining an affiliate network is easy as they deal with all the payouts, requires no infrastructure or investment in software on your part and gives you rapidly access to an affiliate partner network through their internal promotion, it has some drawbacks that we feel are objectionable enough that we favour the in-house option, even though it is more work and slower.
We've listed the things you need to consider before you go the affiliate network route and provided you with a shortlist of the features you should look for when choosing an affiliate tracking software with which to manage your own in-house affiliate program.

Why Your Business Needs an Affiliate Program |
Affiliate Marketing
Monday, 07 July 2008 |
An affiliate program is something every online business must have. Setting up your own affiliate programs creates a win-win situation for everyone. It does not matter what you are selling, a software program, physical product, an e-book or online training, by choosing to setup your own affiliate program you can add significant value to your business and the affiliates working with you.
Imagine how many more sales you could generate if you had an online sales force eagerly recommending your products and services their website visitors. By building your own network of affiliate marketers, your business will have other people on the internet carrying out an extensive advertising campaign on your behalf. The best thing about this is that you do not spend any money on all this advertising until one of your affiliate marketers makes a sale of your product or service. All you have to do is provide them with the affiliate management software, marketing materials, a good product and a bit of encouragement. Creating your own affiliate marketing program means that instead of spending money on buying advertising, you can spend all your money on the results of sales.

Online Business 5 Biggest Mistakes |
Getting Started
Wednesday, 02 July 2008 |
1 – Website Design
It seems like almost everyone wants an online business. It's the newest and coolest dream. It's true, you can have an online business, your dream can come true, but you need to first make sure that you get started in the right direction.
In todays world of packaged software it is true that you do not need a web designer to get a website up. You don't even need to know how to program or how to install systems because many of the packaged software solutions make all of this dead easy. A word of caution, this could be a trap.
If you want to do a DIY website design job with a packaged software solution that is fine, but keep in mind that the software alone will not be what will make your online business work. Online business success is not achieved over night, there is much you must know and each bit of knowledge you acquire forms the basis for new knowledge, just like building blocks. You must learn about website design and usability in conjunction with SEO (search engine optimization) and understand the principles of good design before you embark on this type of project.

Online Business Reality Check |
Getting Started
Tuesday, 24 June 2008 |
There are many ways to make money. You can invest in stocks, invest in property, invest in a brick and mortar business or invest in an online, virtual business. All these investments have the potential to make you a serious income. All have their pro's and their con's, but the bottom line is that with the correct amount of thought, learning and care, all these options can make you very wealthy.
In todays internet connected world, many entrepeneurs are attracted to investment in online, virtual businesses. Often, the uninitiated come to the virtual marketplace attracted by visions of millions and making a quick buck.
Build it and they will come is what they have heard.
It's true. Investing in online businesses is perhaps less risky than trading on the stock market, requires less capital than investing in immovable property and is certainly much faster than building a brick and mortar business. But it is most certain not, as many have heard, a “sure thing” or a way to “make a quick buck”.
So here's some disadvantages and advantages of investing in an online business that we hope will give aspiring internet marketers some food for thought and perhaps restore some sanity and balance that will save thousands both in financial and emotional terms.
