The concept of pre-selling is really an art of building anticipation.
Pre-selling really is the work one does before releasing or launching a product. If you go and look on Amazon some books are only available on pre-order. They are being marketed already but no product has been created.
It is kind of “sell it and build it later” concept. Some marketers take this concept to extreme extents for testing markets and even creating cash flow for product development. This is great, but you really must know what you are doing.
This is not a newbie or beginner strategy at all. Many things one must learn before employing such a strategy.
In internet marketing this system requires work for the internet marketer to convince the customer base or to-be-customers that a product has great benefit and only a fool will pass your offer without purchasing -- all this without actually "selling" the mentioned product. That is no easy task and definitely not for someone with no internet marketing experience.
Preselling in the online world also means at times selling yourself
to the customer before you sell your product. When you sell yourself to
the customer, you are making your customers trust you and understand
that you are there to help them. The trust building is necessary to get
your customers or to-be-customers to listen to what you have to say.
Some internet marketers do plenty of market research in this way to
also find what customers want. Once you build trust you can start
testing your sales “pitch”, but note, you have no product yet.
Some online business people and internet marketers can’t do this
because they see it as nerve retching as they pre-sell the product and
then they have to build it and not only that they have to build it, but
they have to build it to meet expectations otherwise their reputation
is ruined. Not everyone is up to such tasks and it is not for the faint
of heart. But those who can cash big time and even have to cash flow to
build amazing products.
In internet marketing pre-selling is also the art of building up
anticipation as we mentioned. If a friend told you his chronic headache
has been solved overnight by “some new medicine” but did not mention
what it really was, would that leave you wondering what the medicine
really is? More so if you're having a chronic headache yourself! That's
why by mentioning a benefit which would get your prospects' ears perked
up again and again but not really revealing what the solution is, you
will get your prospects dying to hear what you have to say next as you
reveal slightly more about the solution each time. When you finally
uncover the whole thing, your prospects will be crawling all over your
website looking for the buy button! Again, this is no easy task.
However, pre-selling is not just about unveiling your product bit by
bit. In fact, that was only one of the various ways one can pre-sell.
For example, you might run a weekly newsletter on acne problems and
coincidentally you have just written this great e-book called “10 Ways
to Solve Acne Woes Once and For All”. In your newsletter, you can
pre-sell by including a snippet or two from your e-book and mentioning
it as a viable solution to acne problems. If people get good advice
from your newsletter, they will perceive you as an expert on acne
problems and naturally will be curious to find out the ways you can
teach them to solve their problems.
At the end of the day, pre-selling something is building
anticipation and sometimes selling something before it is even
available. Some internet marketing strategies include buying at
discount items that are released months later. If the products give
value and you as an internet marketer build trust customers will buy
and this will give you the cash flow to build the product you promised.
